FAMILY - FRIENDLY DISPLAYS

Kiefer/Van Gogh at the Royal Academy of Art

Runs until 28 October 2025

This exhibition traces the dialogue between Anselm Kiefer and the legacy of Vincent van Gogh. Drawing inspiration from Van Gogh’s visionary landscapes, Kiefer transforms the artist’s vibrant fields and skies into vast, tactile compositions layered with history, myth, and memory. Using materials such as straw, lead, and earth, Kiefer reimagines Van Gogh’s emotional intensity through his own monumental scale and symbolic language. The result is a powerful encounter between two artists across time—both seeking, through the landscape, to express the human spirit’s resilience and longing. Children will be especially captivated by Van Gogh’s vibrant, energetic paintings and Kiefer’s imaginative use of unexpected materials, which invite curiosity and creative thinking.

Painting the French Riviera at the Royal Academy of Art

Runs 2 October 2026 - 31 January 2027

Through the works in this exhibition, we witness the French Riviera’s evolution—from a haven for artists to an emblem of international style between the 1870s and the 1960s. Drawn by its dazzling light, vibrant colors, and Mediterranean allure, painters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso found inspiration here, helping to shape the course of modern art. By the mid-20th century, the Riviera’s magnetic beauty attracted filmmakers, writers, and the international jet set, becoming a stage for cinema and a symbol of postwar elegance. Through paintings, photographs, film stills, and archival treasures, the exhibition reveals how this sunlit coastline became both a catalyst for artistic innovation and a backdrop for the glamour that defined an era. Children will enjoy the bright seascapes, lively scenes of daily life, and playful use of color that bring the Riviera’s beaches, gardens, and villages to life. The exhibition encourages young visitors to see how art can turn holiday memories and landscapes into vivid stories on canvas.
